Go to Bottom

We spent five months in and around Palm Harbor, Florida. We arrived on November 23 of 2024, with the intent of spending at least Thanksgiving and Christmas with our son, daughter-in-law and grandson, and then staying a few more months while the weather is pretty spectacular in Florida compared to Seattle, New York, those other northern locations. We ended up spending exactly 5 months, and departed on April 23, 2025. We had many visits with David and Samantha and Maddex who live about 15 miles away in Trinity, Florida. Most of our stay was at an RV park called Sherwood Forest, which really turned out to be like none we had ever seen. They only have about 75 spaces, and all but about 10 of them are owned park models or small, mobile homes, and folks that Snowbird to them have been doing so for a number of years. Turns out that that way, folks really get to know each other, and the genuine friendships among residents was pretty unique. Additionally, they have regular activities that folks join into as they see fit. Every Tuesday morning ther is a report from the various chair, people of weekly activities. We would hear regular weekly reports on the bowling group, the poker group, men's luncheon day out, women’s luncheon day out, the golfing group, Thursday night bingo winners, the cornhole players group, Men's lunch day out, Women's lunch day out. We joined the Bingo group on the first Thursday. We were in the park in late November, and went almost every Thursday night after that. We were befriended immediately by all of our table members, and started doing activities with them on a somewhat regular basis as well. One week we suggested Karaoke some night, which wasn’t being done currently, and we had a resounding YES! from numerous folks who heard the suggestion. We brought our equipment which we travel with, and our first night we had 42 in attendance at the parks clubhouse! We were elated! We did it at least once a month from then on until we departed in April of this year. With our son, David, daughter-in-law, Samantha, and grandson Maddex so nearby, how could we not plan to return for a similar stay starting in November of this year?? We have it reserved!

We left Palm Harbor, Florida on the 23rd of April and drove our usual 250 miles plus or minus toward New York, with an eventual goal of being in Sturgis, South Dakota for the motorcycle rally in early August. Our first stop got us as far north as Kingsland, Georgia, which is just a few miles over the Georgia border from Jacksonville, Florida. Nothing monumental to report here, and we stayed for six nights, then headed further north and ended up in Lumberton, North Carolina. Lumberton isn't really very near any population areas, just a convenient drive from our previous stop at Kingsland, Georgia, and very close to a freeway exit from interstate 95, our route North toward New York City. We left Lumberton on May 5, 2025 and headed toward Doswell, Virginia, which is just a few miles outside of Virginia's capital of Richmond. Due to an error I made in scheduling and timing, we ended up with an extra week here, so I flew back to Seattle to get some annual medical things taken care of. Had some great visits with family and friends while there, even a relaxed a little, and did some Karaoke, of course. When I got back to Doswell, we extended our stay a few more days to give me time to do some repair in the motorcycle trailer. Feel free to see the pictures on this one. I had attached some cabinets to the walls inside the motorcycle trailer several months ago, and our riding down the road on sometimes pretty bumpy surfaces caused the front interior wall of the trailer to completely sever from its metal studs, with the steel attached cabinets hanging now 45-degrees from vertical. It was a pretty lengthy repair, but I got it much more securely in place now, with a heavier wall, heavy attachments, and vertical support under the front of all of the cabinets. I'm hopeful it will last!

We left Doswell, Virginia on May 17th and drove toward Washington, DC where we would stay in Cherry Hill RV park in College Park Maryland. Beautiful park, friendly neighbors, lots of space, and Memorial Day weekend would be spent here. The weather was near perfect about 80% of the time, and we made several trips into Washington DC. The RV park has a bus ride for just a few dollars to the Washington DC Metro train system. If you are ever in Washington DC, this is THE way to go. Please see a couple of pictures I took of the tube that contained one of the train lines, and a picture of the chart of the entire system. It is a phenomenally complete opportunity to move about the city, quite inexpensively, very clean and safe, and was never any fuller than about half. Even when we were on it ON Memorial Day, May 26, we had no problem finding seats for our tired old bodies! Please see pictures on various tours we took down to the National Mall where one finds sites such as the Smithsonian institution collection of buildings and museums, the Washington Monument, the Capital building, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Reflecting Pool up to the Washington Monument, and the beautiful luscious green expanse of lawn that spans nearly the entire 2-mile area from West to East and back.

We left the Washington, DC area on May 28, headed for New York City, and found a nice little RV park JUST west of downtown and Manhattan Island. As I am typing these key strokes on June 7, we will stay here until June 11 when we start heading west toward our eventual stop in Sturgis, SD on July 23. Please see pictures and some videos around New York City on the photos and videos pages. Our RV park was Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, New Jersey. Our stay here we will spend two complete weeks, and we made it into Manhattan several times as planned. We spent a day near the World Trade Center and surroundings, and we toured the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island on one full different day, riding the city tour Ferry over and back. All trips near the city were on days of phenomenally gorgeous weather, and allowed for some wonderful photo and video opportunities. Please see the photos and videos page for some examples!
