Go to Bottom

Tuesday, October 3, 2023. We got away from bowling Green, Ohio, just south of Toledo Ohio, a little before 8 o’clock this morning. We’re getting pretty good at putting things together as this morning only took a few minutes over an hour. We’ve learned that do as much packing the night before, and then do things in the right order makes a huge difference. Our travels throughout the day would be right at 350 miles, across the rest of Ohio, the very north west corner of Pennsylvania, and around the balance of Lake Erie through Buffalo to our destination at Grand Island KOA, just a couple miles south east of Niagara Falls. If they had a mailing address there, it probably is the city of Niagara Falls. Weather was pretty crappy all the way. No traffic back ups, and the EZ Pass that we bought in Ohio and figured out how to use worked like a charm! It’s just like the Good To Go that we have around the Seattle area.

We spent three days at Niagara Falls Campground, about 10 miles outside of the city of Niagara Falls. Rode the scooters over to the Falls on Wednesday afternoon October 4. As spectacular as we remembered it from 22 years ago. Of course. It was warm, about 80 to 85°, and ZERO wind movement. They have an observation platform now that I don’t think was there 22 years ago, and I walked up to it to take some pictures and a short video. Phenomenal view, of course. See the picture page for those additions.

We left town on Friday morning, October 6. we got away a little bit before 7 AM, and with our destination being North Central New Hampshire, very little of the drive was on interstate freeways. So it took us almost 13 hours to drive the 480 mile span. Many of the roads across north central New York, and much of Vermont, were skinny, windy, with little to no shoulder. Gloria‘s driving skills were fully tested, and she’s pretty good at it now!

It’s Friday evening, October 6, 2023 as I’m typing this, and our plan is to say seven days at two RV parks near the intersection of interstate 93 and New Hampshire state road 112. One of our favorite things from the trip 22 years ago was to ride the Kancamagus Highway which I believe IS that Highway 112. Weather is supposed to turn pretty crappy tonight and stay that way through the weekend, so we won’t get to go out on a ride until Monday. We can hardly wait! Foliage is turning everywhere around us, and it looks like we’re gonna nail the viewing of the fall colors as well as we did in 2001! We will probably join the leaf peepers in the local area, where they even have news broadcasts about what trees are turning and where, in large numbers. It’s pretty exciting!

We stayed at spot number one for a week and have now moved to spot number two near Kancamaugus. It's now October 14, 2023 and weather has turned pretty cool even during the days. High today is supposed to only get to about 53. See pictures and videos I took out on the highway ride. As it has turned out, the fall colors are not as intense as we remember from years ago. Locals are saying, and I bet they're right, that the colors are way less intense because of all the rain the area had during the summer. I remember the news. Here's a reminder: Vermont Flooding
